Hi Geoff

Many thanks for the comment. I hadn't thought about providing a http URI for the ORCID but, as you have pointed out, IRCID recommend this. Althjough this should provide "wholesome linked data goodness" I did wonder whether this would cause problems for Google searches i.e. if a PDF contains https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5875-8744 will a Google search for "0000-0001-5875-8744 find the resource?

As an experiment the PDF I will leave the existing syntax in the PDF I have already updated and use the ORCID URL in other and see what the Google search results being once the resources have been indexed.

Note as you have also suggested, it would be useful to embed a DOI in the PDF, too. I intend to do this too, in the Status field in MS Word in which I'll state Published, follow by the citation details.

Thanks again

Hi Brian,

A few comments:

a) It generally seems like a good idea to include stable identifiers in PDFs. We actually provide a handy tool (open source) at CrossRef Labs that, given a DOI, allows you to embed CrossRef metadata into your PDF. It doesn't add ORCID's yet. But we should certainly modify it to do so.

b) If you do embed ORCIDs in your PDFs, it would be better to follow the ORCID guidelines and express them as an http uri (e.g. http://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097) so that people can take advantage of all that wholesome linked data goodness.
